BCA Welcomes head of school michael gwaltney
Bellevue Children’s Academy (BCA) and International Schools Partnership (ISP) are pleased to announce the appointment of Michael Gwaltney as Head of School.
Michael Gwaltney is a lifelong educator and experienced private-independent school leader with a deep commitment to fostering student-centered learning environments, supporting teachers, and advancing innovative educational programs. He brings to BCA over 30 years of experience working in private-independent schools across the United States.
Michael has held leadership roles at PK-12 schools in Los Angeles, Portland, and Rhode Island, and most recently as a consultant and coach for school leaders, helping institutions develop mission-driven, student-centered academic programs. With a passion for progressive, whole-child education, Michael believes that every child brings a curiosity for learning and that schools should nurture that curiosity through meaningful, inquiry-driven learning experiences. His leadership philosophy is grounded in fostering academic excellence, social-emotional development, and international-mindedness, aligning perfectly with BCA’s mission.
Michael, who also answers to ‘Mike,’ as most colleagues and students have referred to him throughout his career—he is comfortable answering to both names—looks forward to connecting with everyone in the BCA community. Expressing his enthusiasm for joining BCA, he wrote: “I am incredibly honored to join Bellevue Children’s Academy, a school known for its commitment to academic excellence, student growth, and international mindedness. From my very first conversations with the BCA community, I could sense the deep dedication to nurturing young learners, supporting teachers, and creating an environment where every child thrives.
