Summer camp offers a unique opportunity for students to participate in enrichment activities while they enjoy a break from school. A program like this offers educational value to continue to foster a love for learning in children of all ages. Knowing how to prepare for summer camp is essential to ensuring your child enjoys their extended break.

Research the Curriculum

Every camp will offer a different curriculum. Curriculums may include summer school to help children get caught up on critical subjects, such as math and reading. It’s also common for these programs to offer more diverse learning approaches, such as planting gardens to help children learn about science. Some camps offer art projects and lessons while others do not.

Discuss Expectations

In 2019, approximately 5.8 million children were enrolled in private schools. Private schools come with certain expectations. These students are more than likely to have already adjusted to living up to those expectations, so a quick conversation about expectations will suffice.

Schedule

Day camps and educational camps often take place during traditional school hours. Some may be half-day and last for a couple of hours, while others may last all day. Carefully review the schedule to ensure that your little one arrives on time and is picked up in a timely manner. If there is a scheduling conflict, discuss this with administrative staff to see if accommodations can be made.

Necessary Supplies

Some programs provide all necessary supplies, while others require parents to send supplies with their children. If you don’t notice a comment regarding this on the website or flyer, contact the organization in charge to determine whether you need to send anything with your little one. If you do, make sure that they have what they need to help them get the most out of their day.

Communication with Staff

Effectively communicating with the staff is essential to ensure that everything runs smoothly during their stay. If this is your child’s first summer at camp, let the staff know. This is especially important if a child has separation anxiety. Be sure to also inform staff of any allergies, behavioral problems, or medications they may need.

Summer camp is a wonderful opportunity for kids to have fun while continuing to learn. We foster an educational atmosphere to foster independence, learning, and growth in all children. Looking for an exciting summer program for your child? Contact Bellevue Children’s Academy to learn more!
